Every year, thousands of ambitious students from around the world set their sights on South Korea’s most prestigious academic institutions: the SKY universities — an acronym for Seoul National University (SNU), Korea University (KU), and Yonsei University (YU).
These universities represent the pinnacle of higher education in South Korea and are among the most competitive schools in Asia.
Today, we are incredibly proud to share some exciting news:
🎉 Six of our students have received admissions offers from Korea University (QS #67) and Yonsei University (QS #56), with one of them becoming a full scholarship holder!
This is a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the students’ unwavering dedication, academic excellence, and months — if not years — of rigorous preparation. We congratulate each and every one of them on this milestone and wish them a meaningful and successful academic journey in South Korea.
What Are SKY Universities?
The SKY universities are widely recognized as the top three universities in South Korea. Admission into one of these institutions is often seen as a gateway to leadership roles in business, government, academia, and technology across the country and worldwide.
Here’s a brief overview:
Seoul National University (SNU): As the most prestigious university in South Korea, SNU is ranked among the top 50 universities globally. It is a national university known for its emphasis on research, innovation, and public leadership.
Korea University (KU): Known for its business and law programs, KU is a private university located in central Seoul. It has a long tradition of academic excellence and is highly respected across Asia and beyond.
Yonsei University (YU): Also located in Seoul, Yonsei is renowned for its international programs, especially its Underwood International College (UIC), which offers a U.S.-style liberal arts curriculum in English.
How Hard Is It to Get In?
Let’s be honest - getting accepted into a SKY university is no easy feat. These institutions have extremely competitive admissions processes that evaluate not only academic records, but also extracurricular achievements, language proficiency, recommendation letters, and personal statements.
Here’s what most applicants need to prepare:
✅ High GPA — Competitive students often rank in the top 5–10% of their class.
✅ Strong English Proficiency — TOEFL iBT scores of 94+ or IELTS 7.0+ are generally expected.
✅ Korean Proficiency (for some programs) — Especially for undergraduate courses taught in Korean, TOPIK Level 5–6 may be required.
✅ Personal Statement & Essays — Applicants must showcase not only academic passion but also maturity, vision, and international mindset.
✅ Letters of Recommendation (optional) — Usually from teachers or mentors who can vouch for the applicant’s academic and personal qualities.
✅ Extracurricular Achievements (optional) — Volunteering, competitions, leadership activities, or creative projects can make a significant difference.
✅ Interview (in some cases) — For programs like UIC at Yonsei or international studies tracks.
The selection rate is low. Yonsei, for example, receives thousands of applications from international students each year but admits only a small percentage. The standards are similar to applying to top universities in the U.S. or U.K.
Why Study at a SKY University?
✅ Global Recognition: Graduating from a SKY university gives you instant recognition not only in Korea but internationally.
✅ World-Class Education: These institutions offer cutting-edge research opportunities, global faculty, and highly developed academic infrastructure.
✅ Career Opportunities: SKY graduates are highly sought-after by multinational companies, especially those operating in Korea or the broader Asia-Pacific region.
✅ Campus Life in Seoul: Students can enjoy a dynamic blend of tradition and innovation while living in one of Asia’s most vibrant cities.
✅ Scholarships: More importantly, international students are eligible for several scholarship programs at SKY universities.
Conclusion
We are proud that our students have achieved admission into Korea's top universities. We expect to receive even better results in the future.
